Easy Entertaining in Inner Adelaide home

This garden was designed for a newly constructed home in the inner suburbs of Adelaide. The brief was to provide a relaxing entertaining space to enhance the experience of the garden from within the home. Generous decking and garden invites people to explore the space and walk beyond. Garden seating creates a space to sit and enjoy the garden. The garden design also incorporates a productive but stylish vegetable growing space and citrus fruit trees at the back of the garden.

This garden was nominated a finalist for 2019 Master Landscapers Awards of Excellence.

Native City Courtyard

The brief for this garden was to create a paved courtyard garden for the owners to enjoy viewing from both inside the home, as well as enjoy sitting within the garden. The design needed to expand the sense of space in the small room available, provide easy flow through the garden to the gararge/outdoor eating area, hide the carport section of the garage and provide permanent privacy screening.

We used a mix of native plants and waterwise heat tolerant plants to create a textured garden and introduced subtle lighting to expand the use of the garden at night. We re-used the clients old red bricks and other natural materials in a contemporary way to create a Modern Australian Garden which attracts birds, native bees and provides a sense of privacy and sanctuary for the client.

This garden was a finalist at the 2018 Master Landscapers Awards of Excellence.

This garden design for a grand old home needed careful consideration. Due to subdivision of it’s original acre block, this garden required realigned paths and new private garden spaces in what was previously the front yard. The garden design and materials selected were sympathetic to the history of this home, to give a botanical feel with Australian native plants and hardy Mediterranean plants. The garden feels generous and liveable.

Habitat plants for the abundant birdlife and even the resident sleepy lizard were selected. Tree hollows were retained for bird habitat. New plantings were selected for their heat tolerance and hardiness, yet the overall feel is a garden of great beauty.

Stone was reused and sourced to create a seamless transition between old & new steps. Stone walls were repaired and new stone walls & pathways were built to replicate the feel of the original walls and garden style.

We also designed and created a fantastic adventure play fort for the kids to enjoy.

A productive, yet beautiful kitchen garden with citrus grove, fig, pomegranate, revitalised original stone fruit, and raised vegetable beds has been constructed. Plantings to attract native bees are used throughout the productive garden.

This beautiful garden will continue to evolve and grow and provide the next chapter in the life of this historical home.

Thinking outside the square in an Adelaide front yard. The client wanted to eliminate thirsty lawn in her front yard and make access to her side yard easier. Instead of straight lines and artificial turf, by working within a clients requirements, a clever design has created a beautiful front garden with an increased sense of depth and space through textured layered plantings of waterwise perennials and natives. Curved paths create a relaxed journey through the space and easy access to Utility areas around the side of the house.

The garden is thriving over these hot summer months on low water use drip irrigation and will attract nectar feeding birds. The screening plants produce fruit and there are various edible herbs scattered throughout this beautiful garden.

A great design produces great results.

This rear Courtyard formed a very important space - being the only outside space viewed from the living area and adjacent the pool. Bearing the brunt of Hot Westerly Sun in Adelaide Summer, the aim was to bring a feeling of lush green sanctuary space to this narrow garden space, yet plants needed to cope with our cool Adelaide Winters and dry, hot unforgiving Summers.

3D Visualisation of variations of the design helped the client select between a more formal design and a tropical style (which we think works beautifully in this confined space). The mixed plantings and varied textures add a sense of depth to the narrow garden space and a feeling of Sanctuary to this courtyard home. The potted Frangipani tree in a modern drum feature pot brings some added structure to this young garden. The ‘before’ and ‘after’ effect is dramatic.

The limited budget and plants focused design has created a tranquil cooling space which the client appreciates every day from within the home, on the deck and in the pool.
